Breaking In - Mother turned Hero

Image
Thriller. This is a backwards home invasion film. The daughter (protagonist's) wealthy father is murdered at the beginning, but not really sure why, the estranged daughter goes to his large, heavily fortified, hi-tech house in the woods to prepare it for sale. Four cliché robbers arrive searching for a safe and steal cash. The daughter is separated from her kids and finds herself tapped outside, the kids are trapped inside. Now she needs to break in to save them. This is no more than a B-Movie that should have gone straight to DVD. 5/10

Deadpool 2 - The Potty Mouth Superhero is back! - (*** Girls are not allowed to read this! ***)

Image
Action packed superhero fantasy adventure, but not a typical Marvel film. C15 due to violence and language content. The opening sequence is genius, and is a roller-coaster ride throughout. The theme for this instalment is very similar to the 'Terminator' idea, it even contains subtle references to that iconic film. Keep an eye on the many brief famous cameo appearances. It is rare to see a sequel as good as the launch film, this one is hilarious, gory, but also surprisingly warm in places. Perhaps a few out-takes before the best post credit sequences ever filmed would have delivered some of the fun the cast had while making. This has got to be one of the most entertaining films of the year! 9/10

Life of the Party - The plot is dull, the jokes are cliché, and the characters are forgettable

Image
Comedy (infrequent). The husband character suddenly divorces the wife character (Melissa) at the beginning, so she goes back to university to complete her degree, this turns out to be the same university as her daughter. My wife seemed to enjoy and laughed fairly consistently, I think I laughed 3-4 times but also felt uncomfortable with the humour at times. They should have made more of the weird reclusive roommate. After the success of 'Bridesmaids' and 'Spy', Melissa has gone generally downhill. The plot is dull, the jokes are cliché, and the characters are forgettable. 5/10

Tully: Charlize Theron piles on 50lb to play the lead.

Image
Drama. Charlize Theron is Marlow, a struggling mother of 2, who is heavily pregnant and looks shattered with motherhood and maybe even dreading the prospects of the further pressure soon to come. She is gifted a night nanny from her wealthy brother who realises how exhausted she is, apprehensive at first but accepts the assistance. The night nanny is called 'Tully' and we see they immediately get on. Tully takes care of the baby during the night, bakes cup-cakes during the night, and apparently even takes care of her husband's sexual fantasy. The 'pair' apparently sneak out one night for some drinks and generally let their hair down. However, one drink too many results in a crash during the drive home. It is at this point where the massive twist begins to unravel. This is an OK film to download. 7/10

Sex Tape

Image
A married couple have kids and decide to make a sex video on their I-pad to rekindle their passion. The I-pad goes missing, so they need to go find it fast! During their frantic search they get up to all sorts of shenanigans. It’s not good, it’s really bad, and it isn’t very funny. You could go make a cuppa, or distract yourself for longer and not miss anything. I wouldn’t even recommend renting or downloading. Throw something heavy at your T.V. if you run across by accident while channel hopping. 2/10

Avengers - Infinity War (part 1) *** Huge Spoilers ***

Image
Action packed superhero fantasy adventure. 22 (yes 22!) heroes battle the evil Thanos and his Infinity Gauntlet. To become all powerful Thanos needs to gradually collect all 6 mystical infinity stones, only then can he complete his Universal genocide masterplan. The superheroes aim to stop him with their individual special powers. Dr Strange has foretold millions of possible outcomes of the battles ahead, his priority is to protect the time stone (hanging around his neck) but gives this up in exchange for Iron-Man's life. We are led to believe that Iron-Man is the key to ultimately beating Thanos. Unusually the villain wins and in doing so we see many important heroes die, in a dramatic 'turned to dust' way. However Dr Strange's time travel ability may bring them back for part2? We also know the individual instalments are yet to come. The film is long, dark and gritty. There are good character dynamics, humorous in places, emotional in places (especially in the
