The beginning sees a meteor that wipes out the dinosaurs, the red hot ball of fire becomes the first ever football, cave paintings show the tribe at the time skilfully playing football.
Generations later natural progress results in a threat from an army of more advanced Bronze Age people who invade the valley. The cavemen are outed from their valley.
Our hero (Dug) challenges the Bronze Age people to a football match, if they win they get their valley back, but if they lose they must mine ore ever after (Escape to Victory style).
Most of the film shows the cavemen training for the big match, watch out for the subtle jokes in the background, around the characters and around the main action.
An enjoyable film with likeable characters, plenty of one liners and humorous moments, but lacking the charm of Wallace & Gromit or Shaun the Sheep.
