Anthropoid Film Review - Assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the Architect of the Holocaust

This is the true story of two Czech soldiers who parachute into Czechoslovakia, their mission (codename Anthropoid) is to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, Hitler's 3rd in command. The two men are helped by a small but dedicated resistance movement.

This is a two hour movie. The first hour is devoted to planning the mission, and it seems to plod along, building the two main characters and their romance with two local girls.

The second hour is devoted to the actual assassination and the resulting retaliation shoot-out in a local church. The film is better for the deliberate slow burning start, as you learn (and care) about the characters, the members of the resistance and the subsequent consequences of their mission.

The action, particularly during the gripping gun-battle, steps up several gears. The cinematography and atmospheric soundtrack are tense and fits perfectly, will have you on the edge of your seat.

This is a violent, disturbing in places film about a real event during WWII, and by the end will leave you feeling exhausted.

9/10.
